yes, It's a good idea. 

if not defined, we keep current auti scsi- mode detection.
if defined, we can override default value.

Maybe Dietmar have an opinion about this ?

What about extending scsihw to options like: 
scsihw: lsi,scsi-generic 
scsihw: lsi,scsi-hd 
scsihw: virtio-scsi-pci,scsi-generic 
scsihw: virtio-scsi-pci,scsi-hd 
scsihw: virtio-scsi-pci,scsi-block 
... 

so we don't need another parameter. Don't know if this is possible with 
proxmox.
