Yes, that's the idea :)

We can already do it with some storage (ceph,..) with snapshot and incremental snapshot sync.

But the advantage here, it's that's will work with any storage :)

Just wanted to throw this idea out there. 
With incremental backups we could also implement a near real time VM 
replication system. 

Full backup created, shipped to remote server and restored. 
Every X minutes grab changed blocks, ship to remote server, restore.
