NFSv3 or ZVOL over iscsi and my personal favourite: ata over ethernet.

This guy wrote a very good documentation about all the system, best practices etc., many thanks to him and the developers.

Anyway, it could work to use glusterfs on top of zfs, maybe ceph (I do not care with these distributed filesystems yet).
