Hi,
I'd say that this reccommandation depends on the way a Db server works.
In short : The more IOPS the better !
So avoiding to spend time in web/PHP-Java-Whatever is useful in order
to be more effective in SQL service.
On the same phys machine (different VM) could be (__could be__, it's
just a suggest) a good solution with fast disks, or in a better way,
with SSDs for your VM.
