The safe way:
1.9 -> 2.0 upgrade script
reboot
2.0 -> 2.x lastest version following apt-get update && apt-get
dist-upgrade
reboot
2.1 latest -> 3.0
reboot
3.0 -> 3.1 current following apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade
reboot
