Looking at the code reveals: 

if ($param->{delete}) { 
eval { PVE::Storage::vdisk_free($storecfg, $old_volid); }; 
warn $@ if $@; 
} 

We must not unconditionally delete a volume if the volume is used by snapshots! 
Anybody wants to write a patch for that?
